The Joslyn Castle in Omaha is a beautiful place to consider for an elegant outdoor or indoor wedding.
If you have the wedding outdoors, you can either choose to have it off to the side or directly in front of the castle, depending on how many guests you have.
Just being by the castles provides a spectacular opportunity for great imagery in video and pictures. It is a historic landmark and maintained to appear accurate to it’s past. This is inhibiting sometimes. For instance, there used to be a pretty fountain in the front, but it was turned off and filled with stones because it was not originally a part of the building.
The Joslyn Castle will provide up to 150 brown chairs for your ceremony, but many choose to rent white chairs from places such as United Rent-All, because these are much more elegant – especially for a princess’s wedding! Also, keep in mind a sound system is not provided and must be rented.
For small weddings or as a backup in case of weather, the inside of the castle has an area suitable for 50-100 guests. More guests could fit uncomfortably if necessary. For small receptions, the inside does work great because the main floor provides a very relaxing, sophisticated atmosphere with several different large social rooms. The Christmas decorations are beautiful in the winter and the flowers are gorgeous in the spring and summer.
There are separate rooms available in the castle for the bride and groom to change and get ready before the wedding. The sidewalk leading up to the castle from the residential street nearby provides an excellent spot for a limo drop-off or get-a-way from the ceremony. There is ample parking for guests on the premises, as well, and the building is completely wheelchair accessible.
Pros: beautiful for pictures if weather permits, back-up ceremony spot inside, historic site that guests will enjoy, great for small and medium-sized weddings
Cons: not ideal for large weddings
