Remembering What’s Important

Getting engaged is a rush of excitement and joy, and there’s a good chance it might be one of the best experiences of your life to date. But after the celebration slows, wedding planning begins. Despite all the hype from bridal magazines and the wedding industry about your wonderful wedding planning adventure, a lot of people agree that wedding planning is just an awful, complicated train wreck of frustration. Don’t get discouraged, though! There is hope, and I don’t just mean hiring a wedding planner to do it for you!

The key to fun and successful wedding planning is to first remember what’s important. The highest priority is not all the little things you plan, nitpick, and organize for the day; the highest priority is the beginning of your union as husband and wife. If you can get this one priority and point of excitement right, everything else will fall into place, no matter how complicated it is.

The wedding simply exists to facilitate that great new beginning as a couple. The big idea is that your family and guests can be there to support and affirm you. So, if disagreement comes up between you, your fiancé, or your parents about details or budget, don’t let that become more important in your mind than the one who’s going to be there with you.

There is really no such thing as a perfect wedding – only really good weddings with less flaws than other weddings. If you can take on a higher attitude that values love and companionship more than the formalities of the day, you’re well on your way to the best wedding of all time.
